Mantle Clock (Live Edge Yew)

£85.00

Live edge English Yew mantle clock, got lots of character for a small clock but all is genuine 100% English Yew.   Beautiful looking clock that would make an ideal gift for that someone special in your life. Would look great on the mantle or on any shelf in a home or office setting.

The Yew is traditionally and regularly found in churchyards of England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland. Yews may grow to be exceptionally large and may live to be over 2000 years old. Some monks would plant yew in the middle of their cloister. Some very ancient yew trees are located at St Mary the Virgin church, Overton-on-Dee in Wales.

Yew is associated with England because of the Longbow, an early medieval weapon of war developed in Northern Europe. The oldest surviving long bow was found at Rotten Bottom in Dumfries & Galloway, Scotland and dates back 4040BC – 3640 BC. Yew is the wood of choice for longbow making, the heartwood is always on the inside of the bow.

This clock is finished in  clear gloss resin and is fitted with a battery operated, almost silent sweeping movement. All our movements are guaranteed for 12months from date of purchase.
